Car Rental FAQ

Answers to the questions travellers ask most about renting a car with PaRent in Georgia. The full rules are in our terms and conditions.

Booking and payment

How do I book a car?

Pick your dates and pickup point in the search, choose a car and confirm — it takes about a minute. You can also book by email, phone or WhatsApp. Our team then contacts you to confirm the handover.

Do I have to pay in advance?

No. There is no prepayment for any reservation and nothing is blocked on your card. You pay when you pick up the car.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Cash, debit and credit cards, and bank transfer. Card payments carry a 3.5% surcharge from the card processor. Payments in GEL use the official exchange rate, and bank transfers can be made in EUR or USD.

Is there a minimum rental period?

Yes — the minimum rental is 2 days. A shorter trip is billed as 2 days, and the booking page tells you so before you confirm.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before the rental starts. Get in touch by email, by phone or through the 24/7 hotline.

Driver requirements

How old do I need to be to rent a car?

Every driver must be at least 21 years old and have at least 1 year of driving experience.

Which driving licence do I need?

A valid licence that shows your name, date of birth, validity and licence category in the Latin or Cyrillic alphabet. A foreign licence can be used in Georgia for 1 year after arrival.

A licence in another script can be translated by a local notary, but we recommend an International Driving Permit — some licences are missing sections that a translation cannot fix.

Can someone else drive the car too?

Yes. Add extra drivers while booking: the main driver is included, and each additional driver costs €2 per day. Every driver must meet the same age and licence requirements.

Pickup and return

Where can I pick up the car?

At Tbilisi (TBL), Kutaisi (KUT) and Batumi (BUS) airports and at our offices, 24/7 for any pre-booked car. There is no after-hours or holiday surcharge.

Can you deliver the car to my hotel or address?

Yes — choose delivery to an address in the city while booking. The delivery fee is shown there before you confirm.

Can I return the car in a different city?

Yes. Choose a different return location when you book; any drop-off fee appears in the price breakdown.

What happens if I return the car late or early?

Returning 3–8 hours late costs 50% of the daily rate, and more than 8 hours late up to double the daily rate, unless agreed in advance.

If you return early, 40% of the price of the unused days is refunded. There is no refund for returning less than 24 hours early.

Will I get the exact car I booked?

We book you the exact model you choose. If that car cannot be provided — for example because of a technical malfunction — we will try to give you a similar or higher-class car on the same conditions; if none is available, you get a full refund of anything prepaid.

Is mileage limited?

No. Every rental comes with unlimited mileage.

Insurance and deposit

What insurance is included?

Every booking includes Casco insurance against accidents, theft, fire and damage caused by third parties, plus third-party liability cover.

On the standard cover an excess applies to damage or theft. For zero excess, add Super Cover (€4 per day) while booking — it also covers glass, tyres and the undercarriage.

What does the insurance not cover?

Personal belongings left in the car, and passenger injury — Georgian law requires travellers to have their own travel insurance. Losing the car keys is charged at €100. For camper vehicles, damage on non-official roads is not covered.

Do I need to leave a deposit?

Most cars need no deposit at all. A few premium cars require a refundable deposit, which is shown on the car before you book.

Where you can drive

Can I drive off-road or to Tusheti?

It depends on the car’s category, shown on every car. City & Highway cars are for paved roads only. Easy Off Road cars can use any road except the road to Tusheti. Difficult Off Road cars can use any official road in Georgia.

Camper vehicles may also go onto non-official roads such as lake or forest tracks, but damage there is not insured.

Are there places the car cannot go?

Yes. No car may enter the occupied territories of Abkhazia or South Ossetia.

Can I take the car to Armenia?

Yes, with a special permit and additional insurance. The notary-issued permit can be arranged during booking, where its cost is shown.

On the road

Who pays traffic or parking fines?

You do: fines issued during the rental period are paid by the renter. We provide the documentation you need to pay them.

What is the alcohol limit for drivers?

The limit in Georgia is 0.3‰. Drink-driving leads to a €500 charge from PaRent, confiscation of the vehicle and a 6-month licence suspension by the police.

What if the car breaks down?

Call our 24/7 support straight away. If the car has a malfunction or breaks down, we provide a replacement vehicle — in Georgia and in neighbouring countries.

Can I rent a car with a driver?

Yes. Book a car with a professional driver for airport transfers or multi-day tours.
